Using attentive focus to discover action ontologies from perception

چکیده
The word “symbol”, as it is used in logic and computational theory, is considerably different from its usage in cognitive linguistics and in everyday life. Formal approaches that define symbols in terms of other symbols ultimately need to be grounded in perceptualmotor terms. Based on cognitive evidence that the earliest action structures may be learned from perception alone, we propose to use attentive focus to identify the agents participating in an action, map the characteristics of their interaction, and ultimately discover actions as clusters in perceptuo-temporal space. We demonstrate its applicability by learning actions from simple 2D image sequences, and then demonstrate the learned predicate by recognizing 3D actions. This mapping, which also identifies the objects involved in the interaction, informs us on the argument structure of the verb, and may help guide syntax. Ontologies in such systems are learned as different granularities in the clustering space; action hierarchies emerge as membership relations between actions.

Using Domain Ontologies to Discover Direct and Indirect Matches for Schema Elements
Automating schema matching is challenging. Previous approaches (e.g. [DDH01, RB01]) to automating schema matching focus on computing direct matches between two schemas. Schemas, however, rarely match directly. Thus, to complete the task of schema matching, we must also compute indirect matches. In this paper, we focus on recognizing expected values as a technique to discover many direct and ind...
متن کاملAttentive Mechanisms & Their Relevance to Random Access Computer Vision
Research into the use of random access sensors in an industrial context has been motivated by the need to reduce the bottleneck in image acquisition time. With the rapid increase in processor speeds of recent years, the acquisition of the image from camera sensor to machine memory has become the slowest process in the machine vision system. Random access sensors provide speedy direct access to ...

This study investigated the effect of audiovisual integration on action-perception transfer.40 subjects were randomly divided four groups: visual, visual-auditory, control visual and control visual-auditory. Visual groups watched pattern skilled basketball player and other groups in addition to watching pattern skilled basketball player, heard Elbow angular velocity as sonification. In first st...
متن کاملTowards attentive robots
This paper introduces Attentive Robots: robots that attend to the parts of their sensory input that are currently of most potential interest. The concept of selecting the most promising parts is adopted from human perception where selective attention allocates the brain resources to the most interesting parts of the sensory input. We give an overview of current approaches to integrate computati...

The action-specific perception hypothesis (Witt, Current Directions in Psychological Science 20: 201-206, 2011) claims that the environment is represented with respect to potential interactions for objects present within said environment. This investigation sought to extend the hypothesis beyond perceptual mechanisms and assess whether action-specific potential could alter attentional allocatio...
